Drew Jamieson

A geographer by training, an aviator by addiction and an angler by affliction, Drew Jamieson spent his first career as a pilot and flying instructor in the Royal Air Force.
On hanging up his wings in 1979, he was appointed by Lothian Regional Council to apply his Master’s thesis “Sport Fishing in Scotland – A Geographical Appraisal” to the development and management of the trout fisheries in the Council’s reservoirs around Edinburgh.
Through subsequent appointments in countryside management, strategic and environmental planning he retained his fisheries responsibilities and was appointed Environmental Policy Manager with East of Scotland Water on local government reorganisation in 1996. His fisheries responsibilities expanded over a large sector of south-east Scotland until he retired in 2000.
Among other appointments, he has served on the Secretary of State’s Consultative Committee on Freshwater Fisheries and as Honorary Secretary of the Scottish Anglers National Association. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Fisheries Management and is past-Chairman of the Scottish Branch.
As a writer he has promoted Scotland’s trout and salmon fisheries through books and most fishing magazines including:
The Scotsman
The Field
Trout Fisherman
Fly Fishing and Fly Tying
Trout and Salmon
Atlantic Salmon Journal
He now provides consultancy and other services as “Angler’s Companions”.
